In our system, to reduce this scariness, we can vote to check the president. There’s one way to do this. It’s time for progressives to accept 1) we have a pay-to-play president in office, for real, who likes dictators and strongmen; 2) does not give two-shits about what we care about at all; and 3) may fundamentally change our system if he remains unchecked. What I find amazing is that there are notable conservatives that recognize this and are deciding to exercise their votes in a pragmatic and truly pro-democratic way, while lots of progressives play yesterday’s game thinking a revolution will take Trump’s hard right toys away. The thing they miss is we could be on the cusp of a revolution now, one that’s the opposite of a democratic and progressive one.
Laws don’t matter, after all, if a president can do whatever he wants. He almost has the Supreme Court completely and is close having the lower courts. If he sweeps the DOJ, what are we going to do? Yell at Democrats more?
