“The people of the US have no national interest in protecting oil company profits.”

[Please feel free to jump into this musical round once you are comfortable with the melody.]

An insightful interview.

“The people of the US have no national interest in protecting oil company profits. Recent events have shown that people in the region don’t want to be dominated by any foreign power, whether the US or Iran.”

Also worth a read this earlier article from May 2019 on the World Socialist Party of the United States website

“…Working people have no stake in the game. Should matters come to war they have nothing to gain and everything to lose. As socialists we ask working people on both sides of the conflict, including those who happen to be enlisted in the armed forces, to reflect upon this and act accordingly.”

Listening to Washington Journal on C-Span:
The coarse wool blanket, the afghan throw covering the shivering body politic, is unraveling faster than the knitters’ hands can work the patching yarns. The needles are at scalding, soon to be too hot to the touch. Their radiating heat intensifies but warms no one. The needles are dropped and the mending stops. Spontaneous combustion remains a real, but rare, thing.
An oder becomes noticeable, something is surely smoldering. Are the batteries in the smoke detectors fresh? Did the fire extinguisher sell at the last yard sale?
" Hello? 911? I’d like to report that I think my house, are you still there, my house may start on fire. No, not my hair, I said my house. Are you still there? Hello? Please, don’t put me on hold. "

Certain “people of the US” do indeed have a national interest in protecting oil company profits.

They’re called shareholders. They’re also called overlords. They matter more than the rest of us.

I agree. Given that the US is now the leading producer and exporter of oil in the world and that gas prices are predicted to stay below 3$ a gallon for a long time, the motive for protecting oil company profits in the region is pure greed. Same old, same old US foreign policy. I suspect more than a few of those shareholders are members of Congress.

“The US seems intent on fighting Iran on Iraqi soil”

That’s the rub imo. We’ll see if Iran takes the bait… responds elsewhere… or takes a more diplomatic approach and let US imperial aspirations fester… or?

“They matter more than the rest of us.”

You are right.

Marx pointed out that governments are the executive committee of the ruling class and it will always be in their interest any government will act.

To hell with the article, it is the photo at the top of this story that I, personally find repulsive, and objectionable; the 3 (so called men) in said photo. Summary execution would quite a fitting send off for those 3 and the many, many more with, behind, and on their knees to them. Drastic, sure is, beneficial to humanity, do think so, being too judgemental, maybe but…why not. When you see, and hear evil, speak the hell up!

We recognize the oder by the urn that he’s carrying; it’s John Keats.

I’d gladly pull the hangman’s switch sending those 3 a few feet southward.

Their souls would surely continue on much, much further south.

Krushchev joked, “With Capitalism, it is man vs man.
With Communism it is the other way around.”
Heard any good self-driving car jokes lately?
Public broadcast is telling them. My favorite:
Autonomous cars - NO!
Autonomous people - YES!
(autonomous not in a good way: “programmed people”)
Merry Impeachment Everybody !!
NEWSFLASH: Green Party presents
MOST LOGICAL Green New Deal proposal !!
(this gives Green Party candidates a podium stand in future debate. get organized for it greens).

True that. Unfortunately, USAmericans comprise the most sheepish herd of working people any propagandist could hope for. I expect to see a pretty stark “democracy problem” as things roll along. Manipulators deserve the primary blame, of course, but unbelievable USAmerican bigotry renders our polity oh so easily manipulated. What do you do about a population so willingly, totally insulated from the sight of the blood on their hands? Effectively, we USAmericans are exceptionally bloodthirsty people, I think. If past is prologue, we’ll most likely continue to be.

What to do? What’s the solution? I sure don’t have one. Objectively, mathematicians speak of many kinds of problems for which solutions cannot exist.

Goering said, “Why of course the people don’t want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don’t want war: neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But after all it is the leaders of a country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or fascist dictatorship, or a parliament or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peace makers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”

We already see that with the Republicans and Fox News…it is anti-patriot to question the President. It then becomes anti-patriotic not to support the troops soon as they get involved and that is when the Democratic Party jump on the pro-war wagon. The sheep-like media will follow the politicians.

There is no solution within capitalism. The participants might change. The identity of the “Number One” terrorist might change, the enemy might change, but the purpose is always the same…to maintain the dominance of America’s ruling class hegemony…Nothing to do with political ideology…Soviet “communism” ended but the Cold War with Russia still goes on…China becomes capitalist…and still there exist rivalry for trade market and spheres of influence. One time enemies become new friends and old friends become new enemies. Religious fundamentalism? Iran or Saudi Arabia?

As long as capitalism remains - I don’t see any solution…war is inherent within the capitalist structure. End capitalism is the only solution.

Touche. Oh what, that’s French.

Well double it up on Pence and especially Pompeo. They are both Christians working for The Rapture. I just saw a video of Pomeo addressing a church in Kansas in 2015 and really pushing The Rapture. Forget all the other crap because we are just chasing after it looking for some sort fo sense. Once you plug in The Rapture into the equation, as the motive, you have it. Trump has no idea who anyone is. He can’t see or think past his nose. But he is cover for these creeps who want the start the end-of-the-world war so they can get Raptured.

Some time around the fall of communism, this quip was common:

“Everything that they told us about communism was false. Everything that they told us about capitalism was true.”

I haven’t heard any self-driving car jokes yet.

My priority issues are related to mass transit, travel, transport, fuel/energy, land-use and development; not so much how big projects are funded but whether their promised outcomes are fulfilled or fail short. “Driverless” car tech is too ridiculous to consider seriously. Yet there is a big money riding on the notion of “ride haling” as a cultural norm in the future. Investment in AV tech is mostly unwise. The Emperor’s new clothes (in high tech fabric) are laughably pretentious, were not the predictable outcome of abject failure be no laughing matter.

An end of the world unleashing of the dogs of war will be ‘called the Apocalypse’ for public consumption. Ruling Class leaders will call it “the final solution” to overpopulation. Cut off the fuel/energy supply, starvation will ensue, timed for the worst devastating effect. Denial of global warming is an act of war with the same grisly results.
