When Protests Are Powerful, The Powerful Punish Protest

Libero Della Piana

When people feel powerless – locked out of decision-making, bypassed by real governance – they turn to protest. Especially for the disenfranchised and oppressed, protest is often the only way to exert power and affect policies and practices that impact their lives and communities.

With Donald Trump in the White House and the Republican Party in control of both houses of Congress and a majority of statehouses around the country, protest is now a key avenue of resistance.

Anybody left out there in Washington still Preserving, Protecting and Defending?

#3

This is inevitable as JFK warned. Protests will become more 'powerful' the more they are trying to be suppressed.

"The act of civil disobedience is the act of taking our anger and turning it into sacred rage. It is a personal and collective gesture of resistance and insistence."

----- Terry Tempest Williams

People power "… is a kind of power that cannot be bought."

What is people power in the information-age? What is it exactly?

Visualize a dam. All dams eventually fill with silt; then the river runs around or over the top and erodes the dam away so the river again runs free.

Humans are cosmic powered biology that began evolving when the first quarks precipitated from cooling primordial plasma. If one is offended that humans use science to study the mechanics of how God went about creating things and recent discoveries are different than what was explained thousands of years ago, then turn back to past comforts and read no further.

Those first quarks joined together to make something more exciting and complex for the pure joy of it. New possibilities were born each time quarks joined. Eventually a hydrogen nucleus was born. Huge clouds of hydrogen became so heavy that gravity activated and immense whirlpools coalesced into suns. Stars were born and in their hearts they begat carbon, nitrogen, iron and oxygen. The pace of evolution quickened with each new combination creating opportunity for something new that had never been.

Atoms joined to make molecules and one fine day RNA and DNA were present. The excited pace of cosmic powered biology quickened yet again. Even so. Almost fourteen billion big bang years passed before humans walked on Earth and began wondering how they got here. Compared to that, the time it has taken for cosmic powered biology to figure out big bang is still banging is very brief indeed. For example; It has been a mere seventy or eighty years since Albert Einstein refused to believe what Edward Hubble said about the expanding cosmos he could actually watch happening from the Palomar observatory in the hills above Hollywood.

Albert Einstein initially said, "No. God made it the way it is and that's that." Hubble explained the way Cosmos works and Einstein was awed. Cosmic powered biology manifest as human now looks at Cosmos and knows what it is. Humans no longer kill each other because some know Earth is round and orbits Sol. Today, beautiful virgins and first born sons do not have their hearts cut out atop high pyramids built to make Sol happy.

Today those of us who live in the US reside in a totalitarian military empire that pretends to be a democracy. All forms of dictatorship pretend to be a democracy. Corporatism is the english word for fascism. Corporations attempt to destroy democracy world-wide because democracy will eventually evolve to democratic control of the economy. Why? Corporations do not actually make profits; they take natural resources and pollute without cleaning up their pollution messes using bought and paid for governments to write them legal permits to do so. People power via democracy attempts to limit disease caused by corporate pollution and thus directly confronts corporate profits that depend on free pollution disposal into the air, water and soil. That is why the US government is tearing down environmental protection and civil liberties.

People power in the information age uses democracy to focus distributed human intelligence. Fake democracy cannot focus human intelligence for it is designed to thwart freedom to think so that corporations can make what is called a profit from creating human disease via pollution and over consumption.

Real democracy is autonomous. Humans communicate outside governments and each new communication creates new ideas. Corporate owned governments restrict autonomous democracy and cut themselves off from distributed human intelligence. Every US style military dictatorship in human history has done this and thereby caused its own collapse by becoming too stupid to exist.

The corporate dictatorship attempts to dam and stop the river of distributed human intelligence and forgets that it is attempting to control Cosmos by doing so. Cosmic powered biology expressed as human is equal partner in creation with planets, suns and beings so large that light cannot escape their gravity. People power is real democracy and corporate power is a legal fiction that cannot jail big-still-banging.

Well, this is a really stupid idea. I imagine those idiots at "antifa" are who they had in mind with this proposal.

#7

" those idiots at "antifa" "??? I hope this was snark.

I'm afraid not. Thanks for the history link. I was referring to the American black masked version.

Traits of a Psychopath & Traits of a Corporation as a Person (and does it sound like DT?)

  • Uncaring -- coldheartedness

  • Shallow emotions -- a lack of emotion, non sympathetic and non empathetic

  • Irresponsibility -- blame externalization. i.e. they blame others for events that are actually their fault

  • Insincere speech -- described as “glibness” and “superficial charm” to “untruthfulness” and “insincerity,” to outright “pathological lying,” There is a trend toward devaluing speech among psychopaths by inflating and distorting it toward selfish ends. They also have trouble understanding metaphors and abstract words.

  • Overconfidence -- possessing a grandiose sense of self worth

  • Narrowing of attention -- failure of response modulation

  • Selfishness -- a pathologic egocentricity [and incapacity for love]

  • Inability to plan for the future -- lack of realistic long-term goals

  • Violence -- very low tolerance to frustration and a low threshold for discharge of aggression, including violence
