The Washington Post (11/24/16) last week published a front-page blockbuster that quickly went viral: Russia-promoted “fake news” had infiltrated the newsfeeds of 213 million Americans during the election, muddying the waters in a disinformation scheme to benefit Donald Trump.
The answer to the question serving as title to this article is: because fake news is as fake news does.
If any credibility remained with the mainstream media, and that a rather large IF , this latest effort to deceive the public should be the final nail in that coffin.
Any media that picked up the Washington Post story, and the Post for publishing such tripe have set new heights for sheer idiocy.
Be a Bozo and write for Bezos should be the Posts new tag line.
Reich knows no shame. The man is nothing but a Democratic apparatchik who has always been a tool of the Clinton gang and just pretends to be a progressive in order to sheep dog naive progressives into the fold. He lies through his teeth when he says he's for progressive causes over the Party when the truth is for him the Party always comes first. I've never trusted him and hope that more people will be aware of his conniving grifting when he puts on the progressive sheep's outfit in the next cycle and they will refuse to be tricked by him.
Here's a blog I wrote about Maddow almost five years ago: THE STRANGE CASE OF DR. MADDOW AND MR. LEW
She sold out to the Democratic Establishment a long, long time ago. She is nothing but a shill for them and it is sickening that so many so called progressives are still being impacted by her and the other shills at MSDNC. (I'm talking about you, Chris Hayes.)
There is a UK ditty that might apply to the Washington Post staff
"You cannot hope to bribe or twist,
thank God! the British journalist.
But, seeing what the man will do
unbribed, there's no occasion to"
The only surprise here is that Snowden isn't smeared as the mastermind.
The primary practitioners of fake news are: CNN, MSNBC, Fox, the news divisions of the broadcasting networks, WaPo, NY Times, and other major print and online "news" sources.
Any fake news added by Russia, or some other country, or some mischievous, tech-savvy teenager from Slovakia, had nowhere near the reach of these major sources of fake news.
So why do they peddle this obvious b.s.? Because they -- the corporate mass media -- the major sources of fake news -- represent the Washington consensus. They support and justify the neoliberal neocon agenda. Many of the sources on their McCarthite black list oppose the Washington consensus, whether from the left (truthout, truthdig) or from the right (Lew Rockwell, Paul Craig Roberts) or in between (consortiumnews, counterpunch).
Wait and see. There will be calls in the corporate mass media for ISP's to block these sites, calls to google not to display them, and so on. This is likely just the beginning.
"Why Are Media Outlets Still Citing Discredited ‘Fake News’ Blacklist?"
Is this being posed as an actual real question? Or is this supposed to be some kind of snark? Because I'm pretty sure most people know exactly why media outlets are pushing fake news stories about fake news.
Boycott these Washington Post repeaters. Ask your friends to join you in a Boycott of MSNBC, NPR, the NYT, CNN, Fox and the rest.
