Why? Because our Solons would quite simply rather kill kids than feed them. That’s why.
Props to CD for running Medea Benjamin and Nicolas Davies.
We need to organize ourselves! Props to Benjamin for her literally decades of tireless organizing. Analysis and knowledge only go so far - we need to be able to act together on our knowledge and analysis, to apply real pressure on lawmakers, and on the corrupt business interests that fund them.
How many WARS has Americans been in since WW 2 ended?
How much money has gone into those wars—and outside of believing that the only dispensable parts are the dead soldiers—why this focus on wars when the planet is having problems? CLIMATE CHANGES should be what the nation looks to work on, including Build Back Better and having livable wages for the People. We don’t need any more boats, ships, planes or bombs—we need care of the Planet and the People ,all the people who live here.
Love Code Pink. Medea knows the answer to her question.
Remember the reason the USSR went down the tubes?
" War is not healthy for children, and other living things."
Just profitable for warpigs!
As I read this, forty or more F-35s are flying low over my house as they do just about every morning and night, and often during the day. One after another without a break for several hours. It’s nearly 10pm and they are still flying. They start as early as 7am. The noise is at 121 dB while 85 dB is the safe limit before there’s hearing damage. There are about 80 of them at Luke Air Force Base near Phoenix, and I’ve read that there are nearly that many more on order to the tune of $150,000,000 each, with the helmets at $150,000. Meanwhile, the governor cut off pandemic unemployment benefits early when the limit in this state is six months at $240 a week, second lowest in the nation after Louisiana. But let’s rejoice at “the sound of freedom” as the locals call it when they put up with this deafening noise and air pollution day in and day out. Where is my freedom to live in peace and quiet in a healthy environment and not have my tax money given over to war plans murdering innocents?
Oh, and my cousin teaches in a public school where there are no books for several subjects, and she pays for her own classroom supplies, and where the kids used to have free breakfast of mostly sugar and chemical dyes that drew armies of ants marching over their desks.
Raise the DoD budget by $35B in FY2022 when we just pulled out of Afghanistan? This is fraud, waste, and abuse in clear sight. Slash the 2022 DoD budget by 10% from this year’s funding, then maybe do it again next year. Congress, do this!
How many millions of dollars and lobbyists serve childcare? “It’s the corruption, stupid!”
Fear and insecurity coupled with Nationalism and separation conciousness.
You inquire:
“How many WARS has Americans been in since WW 2 ended?”
As William Blum informs the reader in his classic work Killing Hope the United States has been involved in over fifty wars and military actions, both directly and indirectly, since the end of World War II. And these bellicose and murderous interactions have been carried out with the blessing of both the Democrats and the Republicans. Perhaps this is the reason why Barack Obama declared when he was president that the United States is an exceptional country. It is curious that the United States has a “Defense” Department [or more correctly War Department] but not an organization in the government devoted to peace while none of our intrepid journalists and reporters have ever asked Biden or Nancy Pelosi this most germane question.
Hi Terry49:
Sigh— I guess we are an exceptional nation," in terms of wasting money and attempting to rule the world.
Ah America, as the old Marlon Brando movie character said ,“I coulda been a contender,” but where was a decent SOS in all those years?
I am sadly afraid that no one in the military wants a war—well at least for them to be in—they just want to run a war for awhile and then retire to sit on the boards of those who make all kinds of terrorist war things. : (
