Why Would the Democrats Want to be 'Tough' on Trade, as Opposed to Smart on Trade?

I guess it depends on just whom you’re trying to be “tough on”

You can explain everything by saying this: The Democrats want to be nothing more than kinder, gentler Republicans.

Baker should explain why Trump wants to upset such a corporate-friendly trade and worker-unfriendly policy.

NAFTA resulted in subsidized cheap U.S. corn displacing the Mexican campessinos to immigrate to the United States.

Once again, Trump is the wrong answer to the right question. Democrats need to choose between incremental change within the corporate-centric framework in the WTO, NAFTA, and other trade deals, or rethink our approach to globalization, and put public interests into balance with corporate interests.

Elizabeth Warren and probably Bernie Sanders are ready to rehabilitate the legitimate role of government in protecting the public interests. The New Dems can handle incremental change, but no more.
