Trump will not put his ego aside for anything. Anything. It is not in his nature. Pile onto this his exposure to criminal charges both by federal power and the State of New York, the latter which is pardon proof, and he is one scared rat–and scared rats are quite unpredictable. While he and his fixer Barr have hinted where they might go, picture innocent Billy from the Family Circus comic of years gone by and the circuitous paths he took to get from point A to point B. There is no telling how Trump & Barr would really throw down their challenge, but there would be a challenge. The larger Biden’s margin, the more likely Trump gets his mint under his pillow at Rikers Island. Please Vote!
"We know that voting alone might not be enough when it comes to defeating Donald Trump—and that’s why we’ll be ready to mobilize to demand that every vote be counted
Very good to see. Every vote doesn’t count unless it is counted!
True. And by the way, who does Trump owe that $421,000,000.00 to?
From the conclusion of some (gloomy) electoral prognostications from Paul Street (my bolding):
Chomsky last February: “Are the [UkraineGate] crimes discussed a basis for impeachment? Seems so to me. Has Trump committed vastly more serious crimes? That is hardly debatable. What might be debatable is whether he is indeed the most dangerous criminal in human history (which happens to be my personal view). Hitler had been perhaps the leading candidate for this honor. His goal was to rid the German-run world of Jews, Roma, homosexuals and other ‘deviants,’ along with tens of millions of Slav’ ‘Untermenschen.’ But Hitler was not dedicated with fervor to destroying the prospects of organized human life on Earth in the not-distant future (along with millions of other species). Trump is. And those who think he doesn’t know what he’s doing haven’t been looking closely.” And of course, as Chomsky surely knows as well as anyone, the Third Reich even at its peak power had nothing like the global military capacity to end all life on Earth that is currently possessed by the American Empire.
Hey, Biden has not won the election. It also strikes me as creepy to assume he has. Didn’t we make that same mistake in 2016? (after nominating the worst possible candidate)
Biden has won the election. There is a good case to make that, given the 20 million votes already cast - overwhelmingly for Biden - the election can already be called.
Whether Trump, and his supporters, concede, is another question.
Once in office, there will be immense pressure on progressives to ‘give Biden a chance’. As with the election of Biden, many are certain to withdraw for activism. However, what is clear is that President Biden will do nothing to change the social, economic, and political structures that maintain inequality, injustice, and environmental devastation.
Can we see the audit trail and source code for the vote tallying machines in America? We’re pretty far from having the last word.
The race is FAR from being wrapped up.
“Biden’s lead in several crucial swing states is slightly lower than Hillary Clinton’s was at this point in the 2016 race, polls show.”
“Bring lawyers, guns, and money.”
- Warren Zevon
One test of how sincere and courageous we are is whether we are doing direct action in-person civil disobedience or other direct actions such as helping guard women and staff at reproductive health clinics, intervening to prevent earth-killers (read the Pulitzer book, The Overstory, or The Monkey Wrench Gang), or doing what these poll guardians are doing.
Almost everyone who comments here can turn off the computer, go out in the real world, and fight in person against evil and for good.
We know the fascists are everywhere energized and out in the real world forcing their guns and agendas on us.
It’s time for all of us to fight back. There’s some risk to it, and perhaps a price to pay. But we have no choice.
There’s an old saying from the west coast environmental movement:
I’d rather die fighting on my feet, then live in submission on my knees.
“Last word,” my arse. The DNC wants nothing more than a huge turnout, why? Because it legitimizes the DNC.
The voters have no “last word.” Voting is a lesson in futility. There is no real choice, the candidates are hand-picked for the voters, not by the voters. Your job is to select one of the LOTEs, period. And the rat wheel keeps on turning without skipping a beat.
If voters had the “last word,” they’d have universal, not-for-profit, cradle to the grave health care. If voters had the “last word,” they’d have tuition-free higher education. If voters had the “last word,” homelessness would be solved, the environment protected, and poverty non-existent.
Then hope the electorate of the crucial states haven’t been bribed to “throw” the vote one’s favor or the other, depending on the state. The swing states are the crucial states where the vote really matters especially if it’s close like Florida back in 2000. Hence Barrett’s monkey trial in the Senate and the mad rush to get her seated. She’s Scalia’s replacement.
and then we’ll see Trump 2.0 (maybe even the monster himself) run against Pres Harris in 2024.
On an utterly and thoroughly corrupt and hackable system…which most people even on here choose to live in denial of because if they faced that fact, all their wishful-thinking and hope would vanish.
Well go right ahead. Nobody is stopping you. Or is that all just big talk which comes out every election cycle on cue about this time? I remember being out in the streets following the 2000 Judicial Coup and being screamed at. It was me and about 25 other people who took to the streets to protest that stolen election. Everyone else screamed at us to “get over it, you lost.” (Even though I didn’t support Gore). What was accomplished by our protest? Nothing. It was just a feel-good therapeutic moment for the 25 or so of us but it changed nothing. In fact, over the years I can’t think of anything that my protests accomplished or stopped. All actions from the government (wars) continued on as planned and scheduled. That’s the reality.
For all the legitimate complaints about Trump, he’s an inept moron. My concern is that Trump 2.0 is likely to be intelligent and competent.
…Her and Gorsucks…
I feel sad to read of your self-disillusionment and pessimism.
Your protest by itself was worthwhile. If the only actions we judge worthwhile are the ones that provide exactly the results we sought, very few actions would be considered useful.
Idealism and protest are their own reward.
I can guarantee you that those of us in the forest defenders movement, as well as in antifa and other groups, absolutely do stop bad people and bad things. Maybe only temporarily, but to defend an old growth forest, block the loggers, and give that ecosystem a few more years of life before it falls to the chainsaw massacre boys or the climate change fires was a victory for the forest life.
I can assure you that the women we’ve defended as clinic escorts, and the clinics we’ve guarded so that the gestation slavery terrorists fail, are also evidence of how direct action works.
Many people tell themselves disempowering, fatalistic, self-defeating things such as “I can’t make any difference” as an excuse for laziness and inaction.
Don’t delude yourself. Get off your computer, and join the real fight.
Indeed! And if the Biden/Harris Administration does nothing to root out the instigators of the Trumpian Regime (which they won’t), that intelligent and competent Trump 2.0 will be backed by a well organized and well funded institution with 4 years of preparation and a country in economic and environmental crisis.
