With Battles in Multiple States, Fight to End Gerrymandering Heats Up

Deirdre Fulton, staff writer

On the same day as the U.S. Supreme Court handed down a major victory in a Virginia gerrymandering case, pro-democracy forces gathered at the North Carolina state capitol building for a day of action opposing the practice.

Good news indeed. Though there are often mentions that Trump was elected by a minority, the press hardly ever reminds us that house Republicans received fewer votes nationally than house Democrats due to gerrymandering. The senate, likewise, because of the way it is structured, is also ruled by Republicans who received a minority of votes nationally when looking at votes for all senators. We need to continually remind these thieves who have taken over our country that they don't have the backing of the majority of the people.

Here is a Google map that shows the boundaries of the 11 remanded Virginia House districts. For more information, you can click “Map Tips” in the upper left corner.
