With World Closing in on Paris Warming Limit, UN Report Makes Case for 'Transformational Action' to Remake Global Economy

Remember when we were going to hit 1.5 by 2100? And then they bumped it to 2070? Then 2050? Now they’re saying 2030 at the latest. And probability 450PPM of CO2 by 2030 as well.
The 2020’s are going to be a wild ride. Imagine what the 2030’s hold in store.

Extinction. And the winner of the most toys competition.

Not before millions and millions of people flee to the Northern regions of Canada and Russia and Scandinavia to escape the heat and then plundering those areas for their energy wealth so as to fuel profits for the Oil industry as Politicians claim “we have to do more studies”

Absolutely! And you actually bring up one of the little talked about problems of global warming. Once the disaster starts and refugees by the hundreds of millions begin flocking north, destroying the landscape like locusts, they will only accelerate the downfall.
We live in the upper Ohio valley. If we are still here in 15 years (we are 57) and have not gone north of the border ourselves, we will most likely be surrounded by a growing population of “migrant” workers living in trailer parks and under bridges in shantytowns.

Again the United Nations leads the way - maintaining hope, a necessary but insufficient response to a rapidly deteriorating planetary situation, both environmentally and politically.

I like especially the central, circular graph in this article, and I take note of the gray panel bottom right:

"Consumption Patterns Must Change to Support Climate Action"

This is one of the themes at the very heart of “Planet of the Humans”.

Collapse. That’s the reality of right about now.

Yes - I think we are in the process of collapsing right now.

If so, then we must make the most of it - try and evolve with the collapse - see what can and cannot be done.

Make the most of it?
I have no idea what that means.
And who decides what can and can not be done?
Perhaps you noticed widely varying viewpoints on that.

"some areas “experiencing increasing drought-related risks and others increased risks associated with heavy rainfall.”

I guess Senegal falls under the “heavy rainfall” category now.

“Now is the moment” Mr. United Nations? the moment was 30 years ago. now is way too late, but good luck

Move from a Power and Possessions economy to a Use and Access Model.

In the book Tomorrows God …chapter Throwing the money changers out again… we have possible solutions.

But they will not be realised until we understand our Oneness and responsibility to our living planet .

You cannot grow ,grow ,grow the worlds economy in a never ending upward spiral .

A De-growth is what might work .Sharing the stuff of life, not having everyone own their own copy of everything. Having access to the stuff of life that makes our lives easier A Cooperating model so we can Use products without spending fortunes owning them.
The products would be made to very high specifications as to last a very long time .
Less to landfill and saving resources great for the ecology of our home planet .

The ownership model of the past 3 millennia must go.Its a mental construct having nothing to do with ultimate reality.

We must be caretakers and good stewards of what we have .Any corporation that irrevocably causes damage to humans or despoils the air land and water and the speciesystem must be closed down .

It means that when the going gets tough, etc…

I am sure a lot of us have had really tough times personally. You can howl and weep, but eventually, if you are to survive, you must learn from the experience and overcome.

I’m not kidding or being flippant.

WWF has just reported that we have lost 70&% of wildlife since 1970, when I was twenty.

Making the most of it will mean different things to different people - but mostly - we need to change at the personal level - how we live - how and what we consume.

latest update “UN: World could hit 1.5 - degree warming threshold by 2024”

Search “new-climate-predictions-assess-global-temperatures-coming-five-years” look for WMO press release.

“The annual mean global temperature is likely to be at least 1° Celsius above pre-industrial levels (1850-1900) in each of the coming five years (2020-2024) and there is a 20% chance that it will exceed 1.5°C in at least one year, according to [new climate predictions] issued by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO)…”

What a piece of work, showing we’re likely to reach and stay above 1.5°C over preindustrial temperature by 2030 (which we knew anyway because of several other studies) and recommending that we do something to mostly eliminate emissions by 2050! Thus waving in the general direction of the barn door after the horses have been stolen and butchered for dog food. Even the 2050 begin-to-kind-of-think-about-stopping goal is still being ignored by every government in the world and actively opposed by both major parties in the US. Sacred defecation! We need to get all these insane people out of power in government, corporations, religion, and everywhere else RFN!

We need to do whatever it takes to implement a massive immediate Green New Deal with major social and economic changes:
M4A or better; UBI; affordable education for all; taxing mbillionaires out of existence; nationalizing fossil fuel, agrochemical, ICEV, banking and other corporations; replacing at least 90% of fossil fuels by 2030, with efficiency, wiser lives, and clean safe renewable energy. We need to reforest the world, transform chemical industrial agriculture into small-scale low-meat organic permaculture, replace industry with ecological forms. We need to recognize that the root cause of all our problems is psychological and begin to heal it.

Obviously the only leaders in the US willing or capable of doing what’s required are progressives. Bernie Sanders must become president next year if we want civilization to survive the next century, and the Squad has to be grown at at least 20 times the rate it’s growing now, just like clean safe renewable energy has to be built and integrated at at least 10 times the speed it is now.
