Now THAT"S what I'm talkin about! Leave it to the worlds most populous democracy to do it right! We are the most "visible" always touting democracy while watching it become trashed by the influence of big-money - Mammon - It's sad Americans for the most part are too timid and life-draining wage-slaves to do it on such a scale as India.
The 2014 NYC People's Climate March was truly massive and very inspiring, as well as the smaller Occupy actions - smaller but with great spirit! The "official" count was 311,000, but I think that's BS - seems like over half a million took up Central Park West from Columbus Circle north farther than the eye could see!
At least they know neoliberalism, privatization and austerity all go together.
Too late for wages, the bankers Wallstreet and the warmongers already have it. Now they want everything public, from water, parks and the tools needed to run them and the schools to tap into taxpayers money by changing school purpose from education to bottom line profits.
Both Obama and Hillary really like Modi.
Speaking of Hillary, if today is Friday then there must be another e-mail dump.
Today the FBI released its notes on Hillary's interview with them and here are some highlights:
* 81 e-mail chains contained classified information.
* Hillary had a number of different servers in use over time some in use simultaneously.
* Cheryl Mills requested that the hard drives be wiped clean using "bleach bit" when questions began being asked about the use of private servers by Hillary.
* During her interview with the FBI Hillary "couldn't remember" a number of things she was asked about.
* 13 pages of the FBI report were completely redacted.
Clinton is following Raygun's lead when he used the "can't remember" line to keep from being indicted in his Iran Contra scandal.
How long are they going to stay on strike? Can they get the rest of the workforce to join them in a General Strike? Can they turn a General Strike into a popular insurrection to overthrow capitalism and all it's supporting institutions including - gasp - the government - and begin to transition to socialism?
Cuz if they don't........they'll fail. Either the leaders will call it off or it will be drowned in blood. Sorry, but that's just the way it is.
Imagine if all across our common home planet we all rose up simultaneously or in a rolling non cooperation against the corporate oppressors!
"There's a general sense that instead of targeting poverty they are targeting the poor": Is this not what neoliberalism is responsible for wherever it rears its ugly head?
Of course it did not help at all to witness the near destruction of unions across the USA. Part of this timidity is due in part as to how "Americans" are "educated"--or is it brainwashed?
There plight sure sounds familiar, in fact it has spread all over the world like the plague. Neoliberalism is the kiss of death where ever it goes and we are about to get a double dose with Clinton. This very inspiring kind of activism is what we need here and everywhere. This failed policy needs to die out.
Apparently u did not read the full text.
We'll see. Personally, a strike of millions is a good start and will find out how it goes. Cynicism is the dead end.
It is so good to see a nation of people that actually knows what is going on in their government. No more privatization and money for the wealthy. Dear India, keep fighting the great fight. You are displaying wisdom I wish we had in the US.
If the workers of the world want to win, all they have to do is recognize their own solidarity. They have nothing to do but fold their arms and the world will stop. The workers are more powerful with their hands in their pockets than all the property of the capitalists. . . .

Giovanna, I believe that the term you seek is not "educated" but "VEGEcated", as in "I was VEGECATED in government schools to think for itself." Either way, when the docile Americans are sucked as dry as the people of India, they, too, will stand up, if for no other reason than their chairs having been stolen by the rich.
It is unfortunate, but the right wing knows that the left wing may have its demonstrations, but that's about it.
The right wing control elections, determine who the right wing candidates are, and get them elected. Then use well paid, well trained military/police forces to smash those who disagree with them.
Thus it shall always be.
A lost cause in the US. We made ourselves 100% dependent on the corporate state (our employers) and have maintained a war on the poor for the past quarter-century. We are true believers in the corporate state.
There is no left wing in the US today. We do have what we call "the labor left," but they are solid middle class elitists, true believers in the corporate state.
No. Think about it. The US shut down/shipped out a huge number of jobs since the 1980s, ended actual welfare in the 1990s. We have an abundant surplus of job-ready replacement labor, desperate for any job at any wage.
An entire generation has been indoctrinated in the philosophy of middle class elitism. They believe that everyone is able to work, there are jobs for all, therefore no need for poverty relief. We entrusted our very survival to the corporate state -- our employers. Those with families can't risk going on strike.
I can imagine that very easily. Can you imagine what the PTB would/will do in such a scenario? Remember how they have militarized the police across America? That's been done globally actually, in almost all Western countries. Remember the language of the TIPP and other trade agreements? They know the masses will rise when the trade agreements have successfully enslaved us. They've been preparing for the uprising for some time.
I hope and pray it does NOT happen that way.
