You Can't Eat Civility: A Messge to Joe Biden and the Democrats

Yes. So?

I think I’ll withdraw from this conversation. Continuing it has no potential value…

i see Trump as way more of a stooge or “useful idiot.” Not that smart, not really “in the loop” on some of the major goals of his handlers, who are happy to use him and let him think he’s boss.

Of course it’s always risky to play with “useful” demagogues - some of Hitler’s backers thought they could handle him. But again i don’t think Trump is as astute as Hitler at strategy or analysis, much more of an intuitive seat-of-the-pants demagogue. And there are certainly some indicators that the people who really have lead management roles in “the economy” are letting Trump go.

The Return of the Obama ‘Adults’ in a Joe Biden Administration Is Likely to Spell Ruin for America
By Scott Ritter

i appreciate your focus on “trade” agreements. You fail to acknowledge that GATS, WTO, TPP etc. are tools designed by particular interests to serve those interests’ desired ends. Those interests existed before these global “trade” agreements were written, and the agreements were written to serve those interests.

It’s not actually “because of GATS” that democracy in the economy is not allowed. If we want to institute economic democracy, we can’t imagine that that just means rewriting GATS. We need to face the powerful interests who wrote GATS.

We need to see, and name, and talk to each other about the power structure that has been built (including the global economic frameworks they are still constructing), and we need to work together to organize a movement that builds power to confront and dis-empower those interests.

We need to reform and democratize wealth. We need to face capital, and put it under democratic control.

We may have all been harmed far worse by Trump & Co.

Yet, Giuliani, who early in his career did indeed make a name for himself by successfully criminally prosecuting Suite Crime of the White Collar variety in corrupt NYC before he institutionalized the substitution of Street Crime for Public Prosecutors to prioritize, that Giuliani’s info on President Status Quo MBNA Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden taking a cool few million dollars not drachmas from the Ukrainian Enron dba BURISMA for sitting on their Board of Directors is cold hard fact.

Hunter Biden had nothing in the way of expertise for an energy market-maker in Europe’s largest land-mass nation-state of institutional corruption plagued Ukraine to offer in exchange for his corporate retainer. Would anything be more valuable to Ukraine’s own Robber Baron market monopolizing Enron in their own public\private partnership cartel dba BURISMA than having the son of a U.S. Vice President with a good chance of becoming a two-term President on their letterhead, web-page masthead and right at the top of their global business prospectus? Especially when that VP was the Obama administration’s point-man on investigating Ukrainian institutional corruption?!?!?!

Where was the DNC outrage? Where were registered Democratic Party voters’ outrage? How muffled could Speaker Pelosi’s outrage be? What about those Senators from Wall Street, Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton’s outrage?

We know Goldman Sachs hierarchy likely weren’t outraged. Doesn’t matter whose money is being laundered, errrrr wealth managed in their Supermarket of Financial Services Wealth Management Paulson ABACUS type of fund on offer. Goldman Sachs share-holders benefit and the brokers and execs on the Business Insider compensation plan for Golden Passports retain the Professional Immunity from criminal prosecution that Democratic Obama-Biden’s cabinet stocked full of Wall Street Apex Predators came to depend on in keeping malfeasance and fraud well-entrenched in bid-net models that the TARP tax-payer bail out of banksters has institutionalized under former Obama-Biden Top Cop Eric Holder’s TOO BIG TO FAIL\JAIL mass media meme turned Justice Department policy.

Professional Immunity is now even de rigueur for municipal Police Forces and Police Unions who are now apparently considered too BLUE to Fail\Jail or criminally prosecute (even with benefit of Presidential pardons, another record broken by CEO TRUMP).

Check the ZOOM invitation as the newly elected Democratic Administration, like deja vu after Bush-Cheney-Paulson enters to clean up the Fiscally Responsible Helluva mess left by Hollywood Steve Mnuchin and the Red Team’s Good Government filled with the best Public Interest and Public Service practices that Trump and Christian penitent Pence could appoint to run the U.S. Postal Service, Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Department of the Interior, State Department, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Uber-ized Labor, Department of Commerce .

Let us not forget the budget cuts over the Trump 4 years to the Centers for Disease Control and Public Health while the Pentagon and bi-partisan PRIVATIZED NATIONAL SECURITY STATE’s Daddy Warbucks got Democratic Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff’s House Approval and fiscally responsible GOP Senate’s approving jowls a jiggling under mean Red Dragon Mitch McConnell’s gavel. Not for building Public Housing or even Homeless Shelters, but for budgets well above what these profit-maximizers at our NANNY STATE-dependent Corporate Caliphate even asked Santa for in the budget process and come Christmas…

Which is, as many in the Religious Left always point out (where’s the Evangelicals and Catholic Church hierarchy and Jewish\Zionist organizations who should be joining this ecumenical Abrahamic choir?), a government budget, especially in the wealthiest nation human history has ever recorded and where wealth is now concentrated beyond anything in those records have known, government budgets are moral\immoral or amoral document(s) when it comes down to our national tracking of complicity for the proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction and Police Militarization. Not to mention with compliance of the most frequently repeated scriptural calls and prescribed paths…

2008 was a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reign in the financial sector. 2021 is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to win back the working class. does anyone expect a different result?

Fine by me. I suggest you use the time instead learning something about Income-Based Repayment plans.

You doubt in error. I would think that most can understand such a simple point. Why you cannot is perhaps obvious to all but you.

Biden needs to work with Pelosi (and Schumer if he is Maj. Ldr) to put forth a bold, worker centered agenda. Then Dems need to fan out to the country to sell it. Don’t expect that farmers in Iowa, ranch hands in Wyoming, miners in West Virginia hear the message if it coming from DC. They need to hear it in the union hall and the diner.

The devil, as they say, is in the details. Biden is who he is, not evil, not a firebrand, a career politician who thrives on compromise and civility.Perhaps the very worst thing one might conjecture is that time has passed him by. Nevertheless, as we all know, he is going to be our president for the next four years, so the question is yet unanswered; how do we move this man , and his party, leftward?

The unthinking response would be immediately, we cannot. Unlike many, my crystal ball is unavailable so, prior to the attempt I refuse to say never. Certainly there are democrats, and a slowly increasing number, like AOC and her “posse”, there is Senator Sanders , who may very well wind up in this administration, voices all primed to push for progressive policies and solutions.

But, if we do nothing, we will be a self fulfilling prophesy, and have no one to blame but ourselves. (though of course, most complainers never seem to get that insight).

Some here , myself included, think working towards multiple party representation may provide the ultimate solution to what ails democracy. Others, more I am certain, than admit it, remain democrats and they must shoulder a large burden indeed. As Ernesto Guevara once said ( a simile); I envy the people of the United States, as they live in the belly of the beast, they have he hardest , and most important job of all…
So envy the democratic loyalists and do not denigrate. I have never understood why some think an endless stream of negativity and hopelessness is of any benefit to the struggle.

We can make progress, we cannot make it as fast as some would have us do, but we can achieve goals, all that is required is participation, is voting intelligently, in building third parties, in demanding more of our legislators. Trump is ousted, that, I might remind everyone, is progress.

Or, pass the hat around and collect a few millions that could help the lives of many in any city USA.

Lord knows the fat cats in the Democratic Congress could well afford it.

Good ideas, Cos.

i hope you support work to implement a better voting system, like Ranked Choice Voting, or Approval Voting, or Score Voting, or STAR Voting, which make the electoral system more open to multiple parties.

These systems allow voters to weigh in on every candidate on the ballot instead of having to give their single precious vote to only one candidate; greatly reduce the pull toward strategic voting and lesser-evil voting; and are far less likely to resolve into a fixed duopoly than the Plurality Voting, first-past-the-post, winner-take-all voting system that predominates in the USA.

RCV is now in use for Maine elections, and AV is now in use in Fargo ND and St Louis MO.

There are organizations and activists working to promote each of these systems:

maybe the 1980’s…?

alas, it appears we will still have about 70 million dumbf–ks voting against what is good for us & them…“Trumpchucks”

What makes Joe Sanberg think that Joe Biden is a decent man?

You know, it is not as though that were just a polite rhetorical gesture or a way to look magnanimus that we can all just dismiss on the basis of its providing a safe environment for discussion. The statement is right there, noun-verb-noun, as a declarative sentence.

I don’t imagine that the author really means to dismiss any of Biden’s high crimes and misdemeanors over this. You cannot eat civility, but you should not confuse it with decency either.

After the price of oil quadrupled in 1973 and led to stagflation (high inflation + high unemployment), U.S. businesses discovered they could maintain both profits and productivity levels using fewer employees. Bad turned to worse for the working class once Reagan decided to crush the unions in the eighties.

So, really? “Civility will not solve the problems facing the country?” What the fuck makes you think the Dems want to solve the problems facing the country? That’s the last thing they want to do. They work for the folks that live off those problems. I mean, get real.
