There seem to be so many “engagement specialists” commenting on Common Dreams these days. I’d rather have fewer but more thoughtful commentators than the slew of hacks and mediocrities (Frances Lappe, Michael Winship, Rebecca Solnit, Jeffrey Isaac, even Jesse Jackson) who have little new to say. They seem to be under deadline to write something, ANYTHING, just to say that they have published an item this week. Uncritical publication of comments is a disservice to the thoughtful readers of Common Dreams.
Changing governments won’t stop climate change - Only system change can halt it.
No magic wand of the Green New Deal will succeed when capitalism is left intact.
An alternative vision at these links.
No, no, no. Stay in the streets. It is the only action that will bring real change by working to destroy the system that created the climate catastrophe. If my generation had stayed in the streets after the Vietnam War ended instead of cashing in for minivans and suburban boxes made of ticky-tacky, we wouldn’t be in this mess. Voting got the USA fine people like Raygun, Big Bush, Slick Willie, Baby Bush, Obummer and Torquemada Trump. Yeah, go vote, and see what that gets you except more of the same. “A ballot is like a bullet. You don’t throw your ballots until you see a target, and if that target is not within your reach, keep your ballot in your pocket.”
