I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s, a more civilized and publicly engaged period of our history. I sensed change in the air then and it wasn’t for the better, but i never could put my finger on what was happening around me. It wasn’t till years later i realized that the period i was born into was the exception to the rule in American history, the last dying whimper of Keynesian economics. The FDR era of holding private power socially accountable had ended, and the advancement of human rights was really only a blink of the eye historically speaking. I watched in disbelief, unaware that The return to Oligarchy was a return - I thought it was happening for a first time. Freedom and democracy were all i had ever known and i didn’t like watching it dyeing before my eyes. I guess I had bought in to the pledges of allegiance, and the great nation rhetoric i had seen. I didn’t want it to end.
